Case Study: Live Tableau Dashboard Implementation for Food and Beverage Company
THE SITUATION:
A rapidly growing food and beverage company, fresh off a Series B funding round, needed to provide near real-time visibility into their business performance for both their executive team and their investors. Their existing reporting methods were slow, manual, and lacked the granular detail required for effective decision-making. New investors required access to KPIs from supply chain and inventory management to profit and loss statements and product-level sales pipelines. The Company needed a solution that could consolidate disparate data sources, deliver actionable insights, and scale with their continued growth.
THE EXECUTION:
To empower strategic financial analysis, Encore spearheaded a comprehensive NetSuite deep dive, culminating in a best practices document for granular department and class tagging, laying the foundation for a robust data cube. Simultaneously, Encore facilitated collaborative workshops with management and investors, aligning on critical KPI definitions, calculations, and source system integration. This was followed by the implementation of a Snowflake data warehouse, seamlessly connecting NetSuite via Fivetran and innovatively incorporating complex drink dispenser JSON logs through Snowflake Cortex AI. This allowed the CFO to leverage critical software development data for KPI creation. Finally, Encore developed dynamic Tableau dashboards, utilizing both JSON logs and NetSuite data, providing deep insights into unit economics across customer, regional, and flavor dimensions, as well as comprehensive financial metrics spanning the P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow.
THE RESULTS:
The Company was able to utilize refined NetSuite mapping to report adjusted financial metrics that removed management and investor confusion about the impact of one-time costs and accounting treatments. Tableau dashboards, utilizing normalized data tables from previously inaccessible JSON logs containing data from drink dispenser usage, provided daily, granular insights into key unit economics. These successful financial reporting and dashboarding initiatives provided a highly granular level of clarity to both investors and the founder of the business
