Case Study: PowerBI Dashboard Development and Reporting Package Automation for Holistic Wellness Company
THE SITUATION:
A rapidly growing, private equity-backed holistic wellness clinic business faced a critical challenge as their clinic footprint grew at a clip that made manual reporting via their ERP’s CSV outputs impossible. The Company’s CFO was spending large amounts of her time on data manipulation for monthly reporting, time that would be better spent driving the business. Further complicating the situation, a new private equity sponsor requested dozens of additional KPIs to be reported on a monthly basis and conformity of financial reporting to the fund’s existing SOPs.
THE EXECUTION:
The client’s operational and data complexity, driven by several legal entities and nearly fifty storefronts, made the project a prime candidate for a cloud data warehouse implementation. The engagement consisted of an initial documentation phase to align financial reporting standards and KPI definitions across the sponsor and portfolio company. Within one week, a Snowflake implementation was initiated to create a centralized repository of ERP, customer, and point-of-sale data. As a dual track to the cloud EDW implementation, PowerBI dashboards were developed to fully automate the client’s existing financial reporting package.
THE RESULTS:
The development of live KPI reporting dashboards and standup of a cloud data warehouse allowed for the founder-led management of the Company to take a critical step towards a data-driven culture. The automated daily dashboard availability of leading indicator KPIs (previously produced manually on a monthly basis) allowed for improved visibility and decision making, while freeing up the FP&A team to focus on driving the business forward.
